Don’t make these Facebook marketing mistakes

As of July 1, 2014 Facebook has over 1 billion users, so it makes sense to launch your business on Facebook.  Go on now, connect with your customers, “like” your customers’ business pages, and start selling your services and products!  Wait!   There are a couple of things that I forgot to tell you.  There are some things you shouldn’t do if you are marketing on Facebook.  Here’s what I’m talking about:

  1. Stop posting all those ads.  Yes, it is good for your business to offer a promotion or a sales event here and there but if all your connections are seeing is salesy stuff, you’ll find your page getting unfollowed and/or blocked.  Besides, your Facebookfollowing knows what you sell, if they are in the market for what you need and you haven’t done a promotion in a while, they will come to you.
  2. One of the biggest mistakes you can make is to ignore your audience.  Customer service will either make or break your business and if you don’t acknowledge your customers online presence, you will more than likely lose your customer to your competitor who is always on Facebook and interacting with their following.
  3. Your posts are too wordy.  You have to captivate your audience in 8 seconds or less.  We live in the world of short attention spans.  Just like an editor, cut out everything that is not necessary.
  4. Don’t buy likes for your business page.  Your real customers are the ones that count.  Besides, buying likes makes your company look inauthentic—which is not good for business.
  5. Writing fake comments.  It happens all the time.  Businesses are constantly setting up fake pages just to comment on their content.  Again, think inauthentic.
  6. Stop all that posting!   If you are posting something all the time, you are cluttering your follower’s newsfeeds, which takes legitimacy of your business to a new low.
