Know your client

Associate with them outside of work, and DON’T talk about work.

Be Relevant

Aside from getting to know your client on a personal level, you need to make sure that the product you have is relevant to their needs.  If you client is running a rental car company, talk to them about your commercial auto policies-not homeowners insurance.  Once you find out what the basic need of the business is, and you meet that need, then you can discuss other insurance products to them.  Again, as it pertains to relevancy.

Be Patient

Patience is a virtue.  You may feel the pressure to closing your sale, but you don’t know that your client is ready to buy.  Maybe your client is waiting until the other policy expires to switch over.  There could be changes going on in the office.  The point is, give it 2 weeks and then follow up, without being pushy.
